Goal Setting Tips
| The most important thing to remember about setting goals is that they belong to you - not to your spouse, employer, parents, teachers or friends. | |
| After you've defined your goals, identify the skills you have to achieve those goals. If you're not sure what skills you'll need, do some research. Try the library, your guidance counselor, teachers, research technique articles on this website, and other people who could help you. | |
| Goals exist to serve you. If your goal is something you no longer want, you can change it. | |
| Identify the barriers to getting your goals. Is lack of money a barrier? Time? Your attitude? Write down the barriers and consider ways to overcome them. | |
| Don't get overwhelmed by a big, long-term goal - see what steps you can take to achieve the goal and set those steps down as short-term, "do-able" goals. |
